OUR STORY
ART. CULTURE. COMMUNITY.
Known Gallery was built on a simple belief: great art doesn't need permission, and the most important creative movements often begin outside traditional institutions.
Founded by curator Casey Zoltan, Known Gallery emerged from the Los Angeles graffiti and street art movement, becoming a respected platform for artists who helped redefine the boundaries between underground culture and contemporary fine art.
With roots in the culture dating back to 1986, Zoltan has spent four decades working alongside artists, building creative communities, and creating opportunities for groundbreaking talent. His involvement with The Seventh Letter, one of the world's most influential graffiti collectives, helped establish a foundation rooted in authenticity, artistic freedom, and mutual respect.
FROM THE STREETS TO THE GALLERY
Located on Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles, Known Gallery became a gathering place for a generation of artists, collectors, and creatives. At a time when graffiti and street art were still fighting for recognition within the traditional art world, Known provided a space where artists could exhibit their work on their own terms.
Over the years, Known Gallery and The Seventh Letter have presented exhibitions and projects featuring an extraordinary community of artists from around the world.
From intimate solo exhibitions to ambitious group shows and large-scale installations, each project has reflected the gallery's commitment to originality, experimentation, and the culture surrounding the work.
Among these projects is THE AMPERSAND SHOW, the largest group art exhibition in history, featuring more than 1,000 artists in an extraordinary celebration of creativity, collaboration, and community.
MORE THAN A GALLERY
Known Gallery has never been defined by four walls.
Through exhibitions, murals, public art, photography, installations, collaborations, and cultural events, Known has connected the worlds of graffiti, fine art, design, music, skateboarding, and street culture.
What began as a platform for a close-knit community of artists has evolved into a creative institution supporting established names and emerging talent alike, while preserving the independent spirit that made it possible.
THE STORY CONTINUES
Today, Known Gallery continues to build on its legacy through new exhibitions, artist collaborations, and projects that bring art into unexpected spaces.
While the locations and formats may change, the philosophy remains the same: support artists, celebrate individuality, and create meaningful connections through art.
Art, culture, and community. And we're just getting started.
