About RISE
Los Angeles is blessed with an abundance of great artists, fine galleries and world class museums. However, it is not as rich as many U.S. cities in terms of public art in open spaces. We are constantly bombarded with signage and commercial advertising in our streets, but where is the public art there? Enter the graffiti artist. We’re talking not about taggers, who commit vandalism simply to assert their identity or territory, but about artists who take their creative efforts seriously. Those who talent and work have been recognized by the established art community. All of the artists represented in our exhibit have done graffiti at some point in their careers. Most if not all of them have done pieces on the streets that were commissioned or otherwise authorized by the real property owners, thereby avoiding the element of vandalism, and all of them have made their way into reputable galleries if not museums. The heart and soul of graffiti art is to be visible from the streets and to be part of the urban landscape, so the challenge for these artists is how to maintain this heart and soul while displaying their work in galleries or museums.

We hope you enjoy our exhibit and that it sparks a greater appreciation of the graffiti art that pervades our city. We must also express our heartfelt gratitude to Inner-City Arts for allowing us to be part of their 2013 Summer on 7th!

MIAMI NIGHTS | SCANDALOUS TIMES WITH PARTY PEOPLE

March 19 2013 . 08:52pm

Back at it for December, 2012’s Art Basel, Rime and The Seventh Letter teamed up with Klughaus Gallery and Live From The Streets to bring an out of the box experience to Miami. With rented UHaul trucks to be painted, mobile music performances, and a cache of alcohol, weed, and mushrooms on deck, Rime and crew were able to keep the party going through out the week. Long nights of painting, partying, disappearing people and vehicles, and outwitting cock blocking cops made for hard to forget adventure.
