HYPEBEAST features a photo recap of art exhibit BEAST ASTRAY at Known Gallery

October 02 2014 . 07:47pm

Last week, we foreshadowed Joe Hahn’s latest creative endeavor, the full-length feature film MALL and its subsequent activations surrounding the movie’s debut. Amongst the most important complementary pieces to the movie starring Vincent D’Onofrio, Cameron Monaghan and Gina Gershon was the conceptualization of “BEAST ASTRAY,” a multi-artist show featuring several of Hahn’s closest friends and associates. Each artist was given the task of creating their own respective takes on the movie’s theme and storyline of five suburbanites linked together amidst a seemingly random mall shooting. Among the artists involved included Aaron De La Cruz, Dabs Myla, Edwin Ushiro, Estevan Oriol, Jasper Wong, James Jean, Mark Dean Veca, Mike Shinoda, REVOK, Ron English, Rostarr, Saber, Slick, STASH and more who filled the stark white walls of KNOWN GALLERY with the movie’s RX-7 taking center stage in the gallery. The show is open now until October 5.

Stash | “SPRAYED IN FULL” Exhibition at The Seventh Letter

April 05 2014 . 12:02am

Taking to subway trains, gallery walls and sneakers for his renditions, Stash continues to extend his sought-after sentiment in the realms of art, fashion and lifestyle. A longstanding stalwart of graffiti culture, the New York native exhibited his canvases alongside art pioneers Keith Haring and Jean-Michael Basquiat when he was 17. Now he presents a selection of new works at Los Angles’s The Seventh Letter store and gallery for “SPRAYED IN FULL.” A nod to the process of graffiti painting and the wide array of colors needed in its genre, Stash utilizes his unique control of the spray can in presenting a body of work where sporadic drips and splotches take on multicolored canvases. Bright hues that are usually seen on dimly lit street corners are transcended onto the minimalist gallery walls, celebrating graffiti motifs across the art world. If you’re in the Fairfax area, be sure to check out the exhibition for yourself, showing from now till April 12.

LEICA CRAFT X STASH

April 04 2014 . 09:38pm

Last night was the beginning of a new relationship. One of the world’s oldest and most decorated camera brands Leica held its first showing with famed N.Y.C. graffiti artist Mr. Stash. Held at their Los Angeles store, they were showcasing Stash’s first ever photo works, which were featured in black and white. His images were shot in various locations ranging from N.Y. to Tokyo. Showcasing his versatility with a camera and the ability to capture various types of subjects was awesome to view through his lens. It was pretty cool to see someone known widely in one arena for his talent shift it to another medium. Free Range was cooking up some good as well as some beverages provided by Sean B. Good tunes and smiles filled the rooms along with people sharing a interest in photography as well as Leica itself. I have been to my share of photo shows usually held at galleries or store fronts and I must say adding the element of a store such as Leica for people to look all different types of camera bodies and lenses during a show makes it that much more enjoyable. Not only can people nerd out over the art itself via Stash’s work but then you can walk a few feet over and take a look at amazing tools. With David Gensler heading this new movement with Leica, it will be exciting to see what is to come over the next year for the 100 year old brand.
