Preview for Pose and Revok’s upcoming show Dubai

April 12 2014 . 10:05pm

For their Middle East debut, both artists produced entirely new bodies of work using processes they developed recently, more like an evolution of their existing work than a new direction. Along with large canvases, will introduce a new series of works on paper created by painting a full-scale mural then breaking down the pieces into individual works. Revok’s new creations are more mature, deliberate and reasoned, while staying fully abstract, geometrical, and almost brighter than before. The event will take place at The Mine in Dubai, on Thursday, April 24th from 8pm – midnight, and will be strictly invitation only.

NEKST FOREVER

December 11 2013 . 09:50pm

NEKST FOREVER from TheSeventhLetter on Vimeo.

In 2012 the Graffiti world lost a great. NEKST will be missed forever for his bold and unrelenting style. His name will always be synonymous with what a true graffiti writer is. A group of friends gathered in Detroit to reproduce NEKST’S John Hancock on the front of the Detroit Museum of Contemporary Art.

About RISE
Los Angeles is blessed with an abundance of great artists, fine galleries and world class museums. However, it is not as rich as many U.S. cities in terms of public art in open spaces. We are constantly bombarded with signage and commercial advertising in our streets, but where is the public art there? Enter the graffiti artist. We’re talking not about taggers, who commit vandalism simply to assert their identity or territory, but about artists who take their creative efforts seriously. Those who talent and work have been recognized by the established art community. All of the artists represented in our exhibit have done graffiti at some point in their careers. Most if not all of them have done pieces on the streets that were commissioned or otherwise authorized by the real property owners, thereby avoiding the element of vandalism, and all of them have made their way into reputable galleries if not museums. The heart and soul of graffiti art is to be visible from the streets and to be part of the urban landscape, so the challenge for these artists is how to maintain this heart and soul while displaying their work in galleries or museums.

We hope you enjoy our exhibit and that it sparks a greater appreciation of the graffiti art that pervades our city. We must also express our heartfelt gratitude to Inner-City Arts for allowing us to be part of their 2013 Summer on 7th!
