New prints and editions
Curated by Fernando Ruĺz Lorenzo
Opening reception: April 2, 2012, 6-9 pm
Show runs : April 2-30, 2012

EMPERIAL GALLERY is pleased to present NEW PRINTS AND EDITIONS, an exhibition of prints by CHRIS DAZE ELLIS curated by FERNANDO RUĺZ LORENZO. The exhibition consists of many of the past editions Daze has completed in conjunction with Nebo press and others. Many of the prints are a revealing glimpse into the artistic process of Daze’s work. The sketchbook series of prints for example show the various forms of representational subject matter that populate the artist’s sketchbooks. Musicians, urban landscapes and crowd scenes coexist with cloud forms, wild style letters and expressionist brush strokes.

Among other prints included in the exhibition, the artist has produced a unique print entitled “Singapore” which will debut at the OPENING RECEPTION: APRIL 2, 2012, 6-9 PM. It has been published by Dirty Pilot Press in a special edition. The print consists of imagery inspired by a recent trip to South East Asia and will be available during the opening reception.

Chris Daze Ellis’ work can be found in the permanent collections of The Museum of The City of New York, The Brooklyn Museum, The Museum of Modern Art and the Ludwig Museum in Aachen, Germany as well as many other important public and private collections. In 2011,  Chris Daze Ellis was the recipient of a SMART Power grant through The Bronx Museum of the Arts.

The Huffington Post – HowNosm / Daze Break Down Barriers At Known Gallery

November 02 2011 . 05:16pm

Despite the many different styles within the street art/graffiti realm, in one way or another, the subject matter touches upon the universal struggle of people (and the genre itself) to survive in the face of adversity. LA’s Known Gallery has represented this ethos genuinely, despite the current wave of popularity that the scene is experiencing. Known Gallery is for the conceptual fan, not the graffiti fetishist, and their latest exhibition featuring the talents of HowNosm and Daze doesn’t stray from this idea.

The making of the HowNosm sculpture for ACHTUNG! at Known Gallery

October 27 2011 . 01:58am

HowNosm – It’s in your Hand… a collaboration with HiTek entertainment.

ACHTUNG!

The staid cleanliness of a single-colored surface is a disturbing testament to society’s uniformity and the pressure society places on one to conform. Such a surface, standing alone and dull, cries out for attention. Answering its call ‹ and recognizing its potential ‹ HOWNOSM bless the surface with confidence, courage, action, vitality and just a touch of the world’s inevitable darkness and death, transforming it into a truer reflection of both the world around it and their own varied lives. ACHTUNG! is a collection of pieces that resemble broken mirrors, each filled with messages that are, by turns, sharp-edged, blurred and fast-changing. They serve as a reminder of the need to, and the dangers of failing to, walk alertly through this life.
