Combining Community Efforts to Create Little Tokyo Mural

Los Angeles, CA (December 8, 2014)  A new mural called, “A New Purpose” by artist PUSH, was finished September 2014 in the Little Tokyo area of Downtown Los Angeles.  The work was crafted by artist, PUSH to bring graffiti art, which is exploding in the Arts District, into the adjacent neighborhood of Little Tokyo. His vision brings a contemporary, abstract vision to the streets of Los Angeles.

Los Angeles native and based graffiti artist, PUSH, is known for his thoughtful graphic-like designs and beautiful use of color. Art Share Los Angeles, a community art center located in the heart of the Arts District collaborated with Known Gallery, an internationally known gallery of The Seventh Letter brand in the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, to bring more public art to the streets of Los Angeles. Property owner, BH Properties graciously donated this wall and supplies to the project. Supaport for this project were also received by Montana Cans, USA.

This 60-foot mural is located at 640 E. 2nd Street between Central and San Pedro Avenues in Little Tokyo. The artwork had to be created between the hours of midnight and 6AM from September 1, 2014 until its completion on September 20, 2014. Crews arrived on site and accessed a large boom that carried the artists up and around the mural. All done in the dead of night.

“It’s the first time we have partnered with Art Share L.A. to bring something unique to our property,” said Steve Jaffe, executive vice president of BH Properties, who owns the building.  “We look forward to exploring other locations in the portfolio that might be good locations for presenting artists’ work.  This property had the perfect location for a wall mural – not only does it enhance the local market but it also really distinguishes our property.”

Residence and long time visitors of the area were awestruck of the steady progress made to the mural. The artwork creates a pop of color with a mixture of strategic lines and strong color blocks that catch everyone’s eyes when they walk or drive by.

The Seventh Letter was founded in 1998 to give writers a voice, forum and respect on a global scale. Their ears are close to the street, and their eyes are still on the walls. From galleries to clothing, it’s the Truth, Loyalty and Royalty.

Art Share Los Angeles, Inc. is a non-profit community arts center is located in the heart of the Arts District, Downtown Los Angeles. The two-story building gives artists access to 14,000 sq. ft. of programmable space including a theater, gallery, studios and classrooms. Art Share’s second floor holds 30 live/work loft spaces, which are reserved for low-income artists.

BH Properties is a Los Angeles-based commercial real estate investment company, which specializes in repositioning troubled assets in the industrial, multi-family, office and retail markets.
