AROE | Scream London presents West End Rebellion

July 06 2011 . 04:05pm

Scream presents “West End Rebellion”, a group show featuring urban and contemporary artists including; Faile, Retna, Banksy, Futura, Swoon, Keith Haring, KAWS, Giles Walker, Aroe, Antony Micallef, Adam Neate, Os Gemeos, Herakut, Augustine Kofie, Richard Hambleton, Chaz Bojorquez and Shepard Fairey.  “West End Rebellion” will include ‘Monica’ and ‘Skeletons on the Wall’ by Swoon, Shephard Fairey’s ‘Duality of Humanity 2’, and a Banksy original ‘Laugh Now’.  A Giles walker robot sculpture is also being shown.

Aroe made his first attempts at painting around 1984 in the first wave of graffitti to hit the UK.  He continued until around 1990 when he was busted for his work on the trains. In 2000 he decided ito start the infamous NT crew with a few like-minded individuals with a view to write on any and every train/subway they could find.  Aroe has travelled the tunnels and slums of the best and worst cities in the world dropping panels and whole cars wherever possible. He released the DVD ‘Terror Fabulous’ which served as a brief summary of their numerous actions in mainland Europe. Trains aside, the walls play a large part in his life.  He finds constant inspiration from the other members of the crew as there is a healthy spirit of completion.  Aroe describes himself as “an old fool from the old school.”
